Prettiness and charm are like straws on water,
For only upon the surface they creep,
But beauty, like the pearls, is the essence,
And those in search of it must look beyond skin-deep:
In the spines and guts and the blood in the brain,
Beyond the bones and under the skull,
Where logic and reason rein,
And feelings and emotions lull.
That is where golden beauty lies,
Or so I am accurately told,
And not the glitterings of a Fool's Gold.
For only upon the surface they creep,
But beauty, like the pearls, is the essence,
And those in search of it must look beyond skin-deep:
In the spines and guts and the blood in the brain,
Beyond the bones and under the skull,
Where logic and reason rein,
And feelings and emotions lull.
That is where golden beauty lies,
Or so I am accurately told,
And not the glitterings of a Fool's Gold.
