Incommunicado

Oh, feeble human, you were free,
If you listened to your mind's court;
Alas! but you chose to live a slave,
And die judged a slave of divine sort.

Desert flower

In the unlikeliest of places,
On 'uneventful typical day,
Defying the odds I carry on
Finding my life's sweaty way.
Brighter here I glow
Than Nature's thermal power,
Defying the odds I shine,
Torched like a desert flower.

We and us

We're yesterday, we're today,
We'll be more so tomorrow;
A history of glory, a gift of life,
And a mystery in store;
Entangled in destiny,
With the time's arrow;
Flowing in love forever more.

Nostalgia

We leave the past behind
In the eternal rush to the future
Excited in the spirit of change
And often enduring torture.
Here is though the sad story:
Torture or not we proceed
As if nostalgic to things to come
As if we forgot those we did.

Waiting time

There's this mysterious thing in life
I do not get myself to master:
In our limited sojourn at times
We wish time flew faster.
But time flies fast enough,
To get us down to the ticking bomb,
And before we knew we lived at home
We will be lying by the tomb.
It's a paradox, to be fair,
I find it a bit too hard,
Despite 'it does to give us more,
To give time a boring card.

Beauty is all in life

They say beauty is in the shape
And they say it's all in the eyes;
I look at this spotless barbie nearby
Who neither laughs nor cries,
Nor grows nor dies
Nor feels the pain
Of loss or gain;
Yet with all perfect geometry
That neither stirs nor breaks
My hearts dull symmetry.

Cuando la vida se termina

"Los suspiros son aire y van al aire,
Las lágrimas son agua y van al mar",
Dime, Madiba,
Cuando se termina la vida
¿Sabes tú adónde va?
¿Y sabes tú si se olvida?

What I am

No one knows what I do,
No body cares how I think,
But all people can do is when I talk
Judge me in a moment of a blink.
In my naïve perception shall rule
One's deeds, the "heart" and the mind,
But I hate to live in a world where
The tongue is mightier than all combined.
I'm what I think, not what I say,
The misconception is your own,
To know me, world, if you care,
Liaise with me deep down.

The Mandela we revere

If Mandela remained in prison
Ceteris paribus, by law,
He would die a prescribed terrorist
And not as the global icon we know.
The guy who mourned his son behind bars,
As the law by fiat did dictate,
He is the very Mandela the world reveres,
The villain-turned hero who lies in state.
Those who stand upright with truth,
 Virtue rules, sooner or later they earn;
A lesson to the future,
To those who want to learn.

A buzzword called freedom

A thing of old and a thing of now
So much sought after, seen seldom;
T'is the holy grail of existence
The buzzword known as freedom.
It's a word in the mind,
   it's a word in every tongue,
The essence of whose existence
    would be sweeter  lived than sung.

Saturday 7 December 2013

That day...

When all the world is treated alike
And origins are a thing of the past;
When judgement and treatment evade,
The odds of wealth and social cast;
When the colour of the human skin
          is no longer a first impression,
Then, I will talk about equality
         and I will sing freedom with passion.
When the social fabric of mankind
       is no longer sewn by ethnicity,
When the classification of man by man
      is taken an offence to dignity,
Then, I will mourn the death of oppression,
And sing freedom with passion.
But that day is far
      far out of the horizon;
The obituary of The Otherness is ready
But the freedom song is not yet written.

That day, when black and white are the same
And you are not known by one or the other;
That day, when you’re a human walking by
              someone other man with a name,
That is the day I wait with love
              that’s the day of freedom, I gather.
That day, when the pigmentation on a human face
Is nothing more important than the colour of a sheep
On that day I sing in peace,
            on that free night I sleep.

Metamorphilic

The inertia for constancy is clouded
By the furious desire to change;
The status quo self is bored to the bones
And gasping for some air of revenge.
The mind is engulfed by a caustic
 flame of fury;
Eating away my untamed soul
and rendering it much injury.

Long walk to freedom

It takes a big soul to survive
Half a life behind bars,
And yet come out in smiles
With forgiving, wrinkled scars.
When a whole system falls apart
It takes big guts on to fight;
Especially when through the tunnel
One sees no trace of light;
It takes the persistence of a life
To win a wrong the long way,
And the courage of a big heart
To walk fight solo, night and day.
It takes a conscientious mind to know
The world is not just black and white,
And it takes a human full of life,
To try and heal a wrong by right.

The anniversary

A lifetime bag of  memory
With years of love and peace,
It all started under The Tree
With a magnetic first kiss.
This moment of love we shared
It comes unforgotten every year,
Engraved in the history books
And wrapped in hearts of cheer.
Prost! for the years to come,
Salute  à nous,  forevermore,
Et verus, amor omnia vincit
C'est seulement toi, j'adore.
