From Addis with Change

'Tis a city that sleeps not,
But with eyes never open...
A city never awake-living deep in the past,
Clueless about what elsewhere does happen!
Motionless but never resting,
Planless but on the go,
Abode of destitute people,
That neither despair nor grow.
A people so madly in love with life,
A passionless people, of hope,
Fanatics like no where,
Ignorant beyond the scope!
Streets littered with people,
Aimlessly moving nonstop!
This is a city of beggars,
Calling out the angels and gods for mercy,
But hands stretched to the people,
Waiting for miracle coins, falling from the heavens to see?
This is the capital of shantytowns,
Of a people obsessed with self image,
A people that never admits defeat,
But a people that never really won
In a dozen scores years of age!
This is a place like no other,
Sewages overflowing,
Overpass bridges filled with trash,
But a people that prefers silence over trashbins,
A people that rushes to hush!
Admit it Addis, you need to know,
And you need to grow,
You need to have the courage,
Most importantly, to change!
